Real Estate
The rules about giving real estate are essentially the same as for gifts of securities. Almost any type of real estate may be donated: undeveloped land, farms, commercial buildings, vacation homes, or your residence.
Gifts of real estate are accepted only after careful review of all facts and determination by the University of Michigan that the property is suitable and has market value. Donors will need a qualified appraisal for most gifts of real estate in order to establish the amount of their charitable contribution deduction. Not all gift vehicles can be funded with a gift of real estate.
